Student employment


WHAT: During their studies, students can earn an income by taking temporary and occasional jobs under a student employment contract.

WHO: Student employment is available for:

Full-time and part-time students

  • who attend undergraduate university study programme, graduate university study programme, integrated undergraduate and graduate university study programme, short-cycle professional undergraduate study programme, undergraduate professional study programme and specialist graduate professional study programme at higher education institutions in the Republic of Croatia,
  • who are citizens of EU member states,
  • who are involved in student exchange programmes at a higher education institution in the Republic of Croatia, or
  • who are citizens of the Republic of Croatia, citizens of EU member states, European Economic Area member states and of the Swiss Confederation, with residence in the Republic of Croatia, studying at a higher education institution outside the Republic of Croatia, and persons in the process of enrolment in their studies or persons who have completed their studies at a higher education institution in the Republic of Croatia;
  • without full-time employment and/or those who do not engage in an independent activity of sole proprietorship (crafts), free professions, and/or agriculture and forestry.

HOW: By joining a student centre or a centre for student standard established at a higher education institution and concluding a student employment contract with an intermediary and an employer.

WHEN: A student may enter into a student employment contract beginning on the date of enrolment in a higher education institution. A student employment contract is required for each calendar month, and is a condition for starting student work.

WHERE: Through an intermediary – student centre or at a higher education institution that has a centre for student standard established.

ATTENTION: In terms of amount of total annual income, your earnings under student employment contracts may affect the points awarded when applying for subsidized student housing, exercising the right to state scholarships or exercising other rights for which earned annual income is taken into account, and may also affect the obligation to pay income tax.
